Laundry Love Project travels to Brooksville to Assist Low-income Families with Fulfilling a Basic Need
Tampa Nonprofit pays for laundry services for those less fortunate on Saturday, Aug.13 in Brooksville, FL
BROOKSVILLE, FL, August 05, 2011 /Florida PR News/ -- The Laundry Love Project assists low-income families with meeting a basic need - washing clothes and linens. Current of Tampa volunteers will spend Saturday, Aug. 13, volunteering to help wash the clothes of deserving families in Brooksville. The Laundry Love Project will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brooksville Laundromat located at 957 Howell Ave. Brooksville, FL 34601.
"After learning about our laundry projects, a Brooksville Laundromat owner contacted us and asked if we would come to Brooksville to assist low-income residents there," said Current President Jason Sowell. About 22, 000 of Brooksville's residents live below the poverty line which made the city a perfect candidate for a Laundry Love Project.
While one group of volunteers assists families with washing and drying their dirty laundry, another small group entertains the children. The laundry projects normally last about three hours; however, the Brooksville Laundromat owner convinced Sowell to extend services for a fourth hour and agreed to cover the additional costs to help more families.
The Brooksville Laundry Love Project will be similar one recently held in Leesburg, FL several weeks ago. "Even though Leesburg is a small town, we had a great turn out and were able to help over 35 families with washing their clothes. We are expecting the same success in Brooksville," stated Sowell. Sowell and his volunteer force have been providing laundry services throughout Tampa for more than two years.
"If we had more support from other local businesses and other organizations we could help more people," said Sowell. Churches, small businesses and individual donations have been the cornerstone of support.
Current is seeking donations of laundry detergent, quarters (rolls of $10), 1-gallon Ziploc bags, garbage bags, coloring books, crayons, fabric softener, and laundry baskets. Donations can be brought to the event on the morning of Aug.13 or contact Jason Sowell at 727.537.9082. More information about this event can be found online at www.laundrybycurrent.org
