Katherine Ellison is an accomplished public speaker who has been addressing conferences throughout the United States on topics including ADHD, parenting, and writing. Recent audiences have included Kaiser Permanente's ADHD Best Practices group, Tufts University's psychiatry department, and the Brandon Hall school in Atlanta. She is the author of "Buzz: A Year of Paying Attention," the hilarious and heartrending account of one mother's journey to understand and reconnect with her high-spirited preteen son—a story bound to beguile parents grappling with their children's bewildering behavior. The book relates the story of Katherine and her 12-year-old son, nicknamed Buzz, both diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which caused such a tumultuous relationship that the two ultimately faced three choices: he would go to boarding school; she would go AWOL, or they would make it a full-time project to work out their problems together. They embarked on the third option while Katherine devoted her professional skills to investigating what genuine relief, if any, might be found in the confusing array of goods sold by our modern mental health industry.
