Four Mayors in South Florida Honor Bob Lappin & The Palm Beach Pops' 20th Anniversary
Twenty years of guardianship of The Great American Songbook has been recognized by the mayors of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens with official proclamations for Bob Lappin & The Palm Beach Pops 20th Anniversary Day.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL, November 09, 2011 /Florida PR News/ -- Twenty years of guardianship of The Great American Songbook have been recognized by the mayors of four cities, Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens. Each respective mayor has issued an official proclamation designating the opening concert day at each venue as The Official Bob Lappin & The Palm Beach Pops 20th Anniversary Day.
The first proclamation, presented by Palm Beach Councilman Richard Kleid, was given on opening night at the Kravis Performing Arts Center in West Palm Beach on Friday, November 4, 2011. The audience, many of them subscribers for more than a decade (and up to 20 years), cheered as Bob Lappin was recognized for his two decade-long stewardship of one of the nation's top orchestras. Upon receiving the Proclamation, Maestro Bob Lappin thanked the longtime supporters, audience mem bers, subscribers and the orchestra for creating and maintaining what has become recognized as South Florida's premier Pops orchestra.
"It is heartwarming to know that our community, which is comprised of patrons from around the country, has continued to support and preserve two of America's treasures - The Great American Songbook and this world-class orchestra," exclaimed Maestro Bob Lappin from the stage. "We look forward to the next twenty years and welcome your continued support for not only the preservation of our heritage, but also for our In-School Youth Music Education programs, which have taught nearly 90,000 children in mostly underserved schools about the rudiments of music and our cultural heritage among other important mathematical and scientific studies."
The opening concert series, The Great American Songbook Spectacular, features twenty year veteran musicians from the orchestra, legendary Big Bands songstress, Lynn Roberts, and rising star vocalist and pianist, Tony DeSare. David Frye, music critic for the Palm Beach Daily News, wrote, "While first-rate performances by both the musicians and guest soloists have long been the norm at the Pops, this concerted effort to balance the use of the guests and pick up the overall pace of the program goes a long way toward making the Pops even more accessible to casual music lovers of all ages. It's looking like "nothing but blue skies" for the Palm Beach Pops in season 20."
The next proclamation will be presented on November 7, 2011 at Eissey Campus Theatre at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens and November 8, 2011 at The Carole & Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
To celebrate this milestone, The Palm Beach Pops are offering $20 off two or more tickets for the opening concert series or $20 off each 6-concert subscription. The Great American Songbook Spectacular concert series is sponsored by Dr. Sol and Suzee Colsky, IBERIABANK, and Robert and Janet Nakushian.
The second concert series starting on November 29, 2011 for six nights features much admired tenor, John Pagano, in The Music of Burt Bacharach, Cole Porter & More. Pagano is currently Bacharach's lead singer and has served in that role for more than 15 years. Music lovers will hear many of the biggest hits - including Night and Day, Wives & Lovers, Let's Fall in Love, That's What Friends Are For, and more!
